Collaboration For Great Outcomes – OT & Dietitians What A Team!

Dietitians and OTs make a great combination for optimising lives for people with disabilities.

Dietitian and occupational therapy are two distinct professions that have different focuses and objectives.

A dietitian, also known as a accredited practicing dietitian (APD) is a healthcare professional who specialises in nutrition therapy. Dietitian’s provide expert advice on food and nutrition to help people improve their health and prevent nutrition-related disorders. At Focus onFunction our dietitian works in the community, seeing participants in their homes or in our clinic space.

On the other hand, occupational therapy focuses on helping people of all ages achieve their goals in their daily activities, despite any physical, cognitive, psychosocial limitations they may have. The aim is to improve the participants quality of life by developing skills, educating people providing support and adapting the environment to better support their daily activities.

Although dietitians and occupational therapists have different specialties, we are really enjoying working together at Focus onFunction to provide a holistic approach to a participants health and wellbeing. For example, an occupational therapist may work with a participant who has a chronic health condition to develop access and participation to the kitchen and the dietitian assist with meal planning and nutritional needs.

We have always valued collaborative practice at Focus on Function. It is ultra wonderful to be able to provide this in house now.
